Voting for a New Flag

Today in Room 14 we sang lots of songs - in one of the songs it talked about politicians. That left some of us wondering what a politician was and what they did.

We found out that a politician is like a member of our student council and they have ideas to make NZ better (sometimes) and they can make rules and laws that we have to live by.

We learnt that they are wanting to change our flag... some of us were happy about that and some of us weren't! So we held a class vote...

Miss Brown showed us our current flag and the new flag options, and then we voted!

These were our choices
We then had to write a number on our voting slip and put it into the voting box - Miss Brown counted them up and we had a tie between flags 3 & 4.
So we voted again!!!

Wow! Lots of votes!!
As a class we voted that flag number 4 should be our new flag... I wonder what you guys think!? Add a comment to tell us which you would want.

  1. Hayden tells me he voted for #4 both times. Connor likes #2. I like #4 also but then I wonder if we should choose #2 to keep the colours that are in the Union Jack in our new flag. What a big decision!

  2. Room 13 had a quick vote and most of us want to keep the old flag too! Quite a few of us like the black, blue and white flag with the fern and southern cross! From Room 13 :)
