Cross Country 2015

We have been training hard for the cross country and last week we ran it with Room 5 and Room 10.

Every one had to set a goal that we had to try and achieve every time we practised running the race.

We were so fast Miss Brown only got a few photos of us at the finish line!

We are ready to race!!

So is Room 5!

Some people are ready to run.... Some aren't whoops!

Can you see any runners from Room 14??

Keep running Zac and Annaliese!!

All finished!

Man are we puffed!

Keep going Kaha!!

Run!

Go Harry!

Go Kelly!

ANZAC Day

This year was a very special ANZAC Day, it was the 100th anniversary. Our class learnt about all things ANZAC during our first week back from the holidays.

We learnt about what ANZAC means (ask a Room 14 member if you aren't sure), we read the poem 'In Flanders Fields' and why we wear poppies. We even learnt that our school has a memorial wall in our school hall.

The best part about our ANZAC learning was living and working in the trenches... On Friday morning the classroom was dark and the tables were pushed together and covered in blankets. There was gunfire playing on the Activboard and then we found out we were learning in the trenches!!!

We did all our school work, ate morning tea and did buddy reading in the trenches... it was hard because they were low and we kept bumping our heads and they were really hot!

Then we had a walk around the school and saw the Field of Remembrance, the flagpole and the war memorial.

Have a look at the photos from our ANZAC learning!

Here we are all squashed into the trenches....

Here are the boys completing an ANZAC activity

Chanelle is enjoying being in the trenches!

Morning tea time!

Yum, morning tea in the trenches!

It's pretty tight in here!

Hayden found a good gap to eat his morning tea in!

This is the Field of Remembrance for the soldiers who were from the Ashburton area who died in the war.

Room 14 underneath the flag pole.

Visiting the War Memorial, the people on there were students who used to attend Hampstead School.

Dr Seuss - Love of Reading Week

The last week of Term 1 was so cool! We stopped our reading interchange for the week and stayed in our normal class and did an author study... ours was DR SEUSS!!!!!!!

All week we read stories written by Dr Seuss and all our follow-up activities were about Dr Seuss books!

We read.... The Lorax, The Cat in the Hat, The Cat in the Hat Comes Back and Oh the places you'll go!

Have a look at the photo's Miss Brown took of what we got up to!

Here we are painting our Truffula Trees

We painted them in our desk groups...

Then Miss Brown cut them out after they were dry...

Then we put a feeling on our Red Hat outline.

Here we are painting Cat in the Hat pegs...

We used different kinds of pasta for each part of him...

We made his bow tie sparkly by adding glitter...

Miss Brown stuck them onto the Truffula Trees with our Red Hat feeling.

Here's the finished product!
