Maori Language for Feelings

On Tuesday afternoon we learnt how to say Maori feelings and how to ask how people are feeling.

This is how to ask how someone is feeling... 'Kei te pehea koe?

This is how to answer it... 'Kei te _____________ ahau. This means 'I am feeling __________'.

If you watch this video you might be able to say these feelings and ask how other people are feeling.

Can you guess what the feelings mean? If you don't know, come to Room 14 and we will tell you!!

Student of the Week - Kalotia

Today at assembly Mr Melrose presented Kalotia with her Student of the Week prize.

She received the award because she has a positive attitude towards her learning, works hard, gives everything a go and is kind to everyone.

Well done Kalotia, keep up the hard work!!

Kalotia looked surprised when she heard her name!

Mr Melrose is reading Kalotia her award.

Great job Kalotia, you should be proud!

Spider Hats

This afternoon we made spider hats for our Construction topic in Art. We had to colour in the face and legs with black crayon and cut them out.

Next we cut the middle out of a paper plate so we could sit the hat on our head. After that we had to fold the legs and staple the face onto the front of the hat.

Then we stuck the legs on and made eyes out of white paper and stuck those on too.

We were scared when we had them on our heads because there were spiders on us!!! (just kidding, we knew they weren't real... or did we?)

Argh! Scary spiders!!!!!

Looking good Room 14 :)

Robot Construction

We are learning about Construction in Art this term. We decided that construction means when you build something out of something else.

We have been helping Miss Brown collect recycling since the term started (even some of the teacher's helped - thanks Hampstead teachers).

Finally the day arrived that we got to use that recycling to make a robot! It was so much fun! The class was really messy but we were all hard at work making the best robots ever.

Some had wings, some had water bottles on their back, some had jet packs and some had no arms or legs!!

Have a look at our photos, who's robot do you like the best?

The pile of recycling was WAY bigger than this when we started

Yellow table kids working hard to put their robots together.

I wonder what these robots will look like at the end?

Working very hard here to make a cool robot.

The finished product... awesome robots!

Even more robots!

Great job Room 14!

Teddy Bear's Picnic

Last Tuesday we were allowed to bring our teddies to school for a teddy bear picnic.

We went under the trees on the field in the shade to have it because it was a hot day.

Some boys from Room 11 judged the teddies and gave out prizes.

We got to show our teddies to our buzz group in class.

Some of our teddies had funny names.

Some of our teddies came dressed up in our uniform, like Kneecap the Moose.

Some had big teddies and some had small teddies.

Some of us forgot teddies... whoops!

Here are all our teddies!

Harold and the Life Education Bus

For the first two weeks of this term we had Harold visiting Hampstead School. We went into the Life Education Bus twice to hang out with Harold and learn about what makes us different.

We learnt about our personality and our body parts.

Everyone in our class, school, town, country, even the world has a different personality and that is what makes us unique and different... and awesome!

We now know that our personality is the way we: feel, act, think and what we like to do.

Here are some photos of us from inside Harold's house.

Zac and Rudi are showing us how big our brains are... put your fists together to see how big your's is!

Brock is putting a label on which sense he thinks the picture is showing, can you guess which sense it is?

Amelia is also helping show us which sense is which.

It's beginning to feel a lot like... SUMMER!!!

Wow! It was really hot today here in Ashburton! We came back inside from lunch and were sweating heaps!

We said that we needed a fan to help keep us cool and someone asked Miss Brown if we could make one and she said yes!

Charlotte said that she thought Miss Brown was joking but then she put some paper in the middle of our circle and we folded it into a fan. Then we stapled the bottom and pulled the sides out to make it wider.

We taught each other how to wave the fan so that it air blew on our faces to keep us cool.
